Jeffrey Bell, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Jeffrey Bell joined Fayetteville Surgical Associates after a four year tour of duty in the United States Air Force. During this period he was stationed as a Major at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Bell was the Medical Director of General Surgery at the 377th Medical Group and an Attending Surgeon at the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Hospital. He was also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of New Mexico and the General Surgery Course Director for the University of St. Francis Physician Assistant Program. He was deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq with the 506th EMEDS during Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was awarded an Air Force Achievement Medal.

Dr. Bell grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Fayetteville High School as a National Merit Scholar. He attended the University of Arkansas where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, and was named the Dow Chemical Outstanding Junior in Chemical Engineering. He matriculated at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After medical school, he completed both a general surgery internship and a surgical residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Bell’s professional interests include minimally invasive surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, and surgical oncology. He has specialized training in breast ultrasound, sentinel node biopsy for breast and skin cancer, and laparoscopic colon surgery. He also has additional training from the University of New Mexico in endovascular and vascular surgery.

Dr. Bell offers laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic colon surgery, and laparoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. He has been trained to perform peripheral vascular angiography and angioplasty as well as open peripheral vascular surgery. During his Air Force career, Dr. Bell had an extremely busy endoscopic practice and performs upper gastroesophageal endoscopy and colonoscopy. He has also worked in many of the hospitals of northern New Mexico, including the state’s only level one trauma center, where he obtained additional experience in emergency general surgery, surgical critical care, and trauma surgery.

Dr. Bell is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 2003. He continues to hold the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
