Gareth Eck, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Gareth Eck has practiced general surgery at Fayetteville Surgical Associates since 1984. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for North Hills Surgery Center. He has also served on the boards of Washington Regional Medical Board of Directors, Washington Regional Medical Center Foundation, Health Partners (a physician hospital organization), and Omega Physician’s organization. He has also served as Chief of the General Surgery Service and Chief of Staff at WRMC. He is also a past president of the Washington County Medical Society.
Born in Oklahoma, Dr. Eck holds a BSBA degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He completed both a general surgery internship and a surgical residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Eck has a special interest in the surgical care of patients with Cancer. He has established a large practice in the care of patients with breast cancer. He has specialized training in ultrasound and stereotactic biopsy of the breast. He offers sentinel node mapping and breast conserving treatment. Dr. Eck also has a large practice established in the treatment of colo-rectal cancer and offers colonoscopy as well as upper endoscopy. He offers surgical treatment for cancer of the thyroid, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, and malignant melanoma.
Dr. Eck has vast experience in laparoscopic surgery and offers laparoscopic surgery on the gallbladder as well as laparoscopic hernia repair and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. He also offers the full spectrum of traditional general surgical care including endocrine surgery.
Dr. Eck is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1985, re-certified in 1995 and again in 2005. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Arkansas Medical Society, and the Washington County Medical Society. He also holds the position of Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Arkansas Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville.
